Monoclonal antibodies exert their therapeutic effects through various mechanisms. By binding to the Fab region, they can exert neutralizing action, induce or directly block cellular apoptosis. Binding of the Fc domain of the antibody to effector cells or complement triggers an “effector function” that kills target cells or recruits other immune cells to generate a secondary response.
